Using GPS Tracklogs in Lightroom Maps for Aerial Photography

At first we did not much care about the maps in Lightroom because most of our images are not tagged with location info. If we drive to places we very much remember where we had been. But this changed once we tried using GPS tracklogs for aerial photography. The best of all is that we did not need to buy anything new to create these tracklogs. Today we tested two GPS enabled devices while taking aerial photos:
- iPhone 4S + Geotag Photo Pro app (iPhone in my pocket while flying)
- Google Nexus 7 + free Google My Tracks app (in the camera bag on the airplane back seat)
Both created perfectly usable and precise tracklogs. Maybe the Nexus tracklogs had a tad more precision.

Using the tracklogs we could also tag all photos with location coordinates (all these dots show spots where we took pictures today. We plan to write more about this topic soon. Now we got excited and plan to take these two GPS devices on all our trips.
Here is our Aerial Portfolio with new photos from today.
